#7 June 2, Mt Sonder

Mt Sonder:
Can I climb it? If you can get to the top of Mt Gillen, then you can make it up Sonder as well.

The climb of Mt Sonder is a classic: great views all the way along the ridge, and up, up, up … 600 metres above the plains.  This is the final section of the Larapinta Trail. Sign the summit logbook and soak up the view.
Depending on the weather, we could climb for sunrise views or be at the top for an early lunch. The track is rough but well marked, and is consistently steep all the way. The walk is of a medium-hard standard (about 16km, 5 hours).

What to bring:
Sturdy, comfortable shoes; sunscreen, hat, long-sleeved shirt; small pack with water (3 litres), lunch, snacks, camera, torch, warm top and beanie (it can get very cold on the summit), personal first aid and medications.

We will camp near Redbank Gorge on Saturday night so we can make an early start on Sunday. Bring along a swag or tent, a warm sleeping bag, warm clothes, torch, extra water, stove and fuel, dinner & breakfast as well. But relax, you won’t need to carry any of these.
